Design My French Escape

France, in every season

France is not a destination you visit only once.

Each season reveals something entirely different — candlelit winter evenings in Paris, magnificent gardens bursting into bloom in spring, lavender fields and Mediterranean sunshine in summer, golden vineyards during the autumn harvest, and storybook Christmas markets as winter returns.

Whether you dream of romance in Paris, the vineyards of Champagne and Burgundy, the lavender fields of Provence, the beaches of Normandy or the sparkling Mediterranean, there is a perfect time to experience your France.

Meet your France specialist

I’m Jamie Leigh — and France is my home.

Living in France means I know these places firsthand: the Provençal market worth waking early for, the Champagne house that still welcomes guests like family, the Paris café where locals linger.

Every custom Paris itinerary and luxury Provence vacation I design is built on personal relationships with trusted guides, drivers, chefs and hoteliers I have met myself.

You work with me directly, from the first conversation until you fly home.

January

Paris Without the Crowds

January offers a quieter, more intimate side of Paris. The museums, cafés and grand hotels settle into their winter rhythm, making this a wonderful time for travelers who want to experience the city at a more relaxed pace.

Experience the glamour surrounding Paris Haute Couture Week, explore the Louvre, step inside the magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral, and spend an evening surrounded by stained glass and classical music at Sainte-Chapelle.

Dress for an evening at the Palais Garnier, home of the Paris Opera, browse the city’s famous winter sales, and escape the cold with a decadent chocolat chaud at Angelina. For couples, I love adding a private photography session around the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Seine and some of Paris’s most beautiful hidden streets.

February

Romance in the City of Love

Paris was made for romance — and February gives you every excuse to embrace it. Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a candlelit dinner cruise along the Seine as illuminated monuments drift past your table. Return to your hotel to Champagne and chocolates waiting in your room.

Spend an afternoon creating fragrances for one another during a perfume and cologne workshop, or learn the secrets of French pastry together during a private baking class. Arrange a professional photographer to capture the two of you at some of Paris’s most iconic locations.

Visit the Louvre, Notre-Dame and Versailles, climb the Eiffel Tower, attend an intimate concert at Sainte-Chapelle, or dress for an evening at the Paris Opera. This is Paris for two.

March

The First Signs of Spring

Paris begins waking from winter. Café terraces return, trees begin budding and the first flowers appear throughout the city’s parks and gardens.

Explore the Musée Rodin and its beautiful sculpture garden, wander through Saint-Germain-des-Prés, stroll the Luxembourg Gardens and learn to play a game of pétanque like a Parisian.

March is also an excellent time to venture beyond Paris. Combine the capital with Bordeaux, Lyon or the Loire Valley and discover another side of France before the summer season begins.

Paris in Bloom

This is the Paris people dream about. Gardens burst into color, café tables spill onto sidewalks and longer evenings invite you to explore long after dinner.

Travel into the countryside to visit Claude Monet’s home and extraordinary gardens at Giverny. Back in Paris, stroll through the Tuileries and Luxembourg Gardens, visit the Musée Rodin and spend a day at the magnificent Palace of Versailles as its gardens come alive for spring.

Then trade flowers for feathers and Champagne with a late performance at the Moulin Rouge.

May

Gardens, Châteaux & Champagne

May is one of the loveliest months to explore France. Spring is in full bloom, days are longer and the countryside is gloriously green.

Combine Paris with the Loire Valley, where privately guided days can take you through some of France’s most magnificent châteaux, including Chambord and Chenonceau. Or travel east to Champagne for private cellar visits, tastings and leisurely lunches among the vineyards surrounding Reims and Épernay.

Giverny is spectacular, Parisian gardens are flourishing and the weather is ideal for discovering France on foot.

June

Normandy, D-Day & the French Coast

June carries special significance in Normandy as France commemorates the Allied D-Day landings of June 6, 1944.

Travel from Paris to Normandy, where a private historian and guide can create a deeply personal journey through the landing beaches, battlefields and memorials. Depending on your interests and family history, your day might include Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc, the Normandy American Cemetery, Arromanches and the Canadian sites surrounding Juno Beach.

Stay in historic Bayeux or retreat to a beautiful château in the Normandy countryside. Continue west to the unforgettable Mont-Saint-Michel rising dramatically from the tidal flats. History, countryside, coastline and some of France’s most moving stories come together here.

July

Lavender Season in Provence

Welcome to the South of France. Board the TGV from Paris and watch the landscape change as you travel toward Provence.

Explore Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Gordes, Roussillon, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Uzès and the magnificent Pont du Gard. Wander through Provençal markets, visit vineyards and lavender distilleries, picnic in the countryside and linger over long dinners beneath the stars.

And then there is the lavender. Fields of purple transform parts of Provence into one of the most extraordinary landscapes in France. July also brings the renowned Festival d’Avignon, Bastille Day celebrations on July 14 and the excitement of the Tour de France.

August

The French Riviera & Mediterranean

August is made for the Mediterranean. Think Nice, Antibes, Cannes, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Èze, Menton, Monaco and Saint-Tropez — mixed with quieter coastal villages and carefully selected luxury retreats.

Charter a private boat for the day. Swim in secluded Mediterranean coves, stop for lunch overlooking the sea, explore colorful Provençal markets and end your day with cocktails as the sun disappears over the Côte d’Azur.

For travelers wanting something even wilder, consider adding Corsica with its dramatic mountains, turquoise water and spectacular coastline. August is also peak French holiday season, making thoughtful advance planning particularly important.

September

Wine Harvest & Golden Provence

September is one of the most desirable months to experience France. The intense heat of summer begins to soften, Mediterranean waters remain warm and France’s legendary vineyards begin their annual vendanges — the grape harvest.

Explore Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, the Rhône Valley or Provence through private vineyard visits, intimate tastings and extraordinary meals. This is also a beautiful time for the French Riviera and Provence. Or allow France to unfold slowly from the water aboard a luxury river cruise along the Rhône and Saône.

Warm days. Cooler evenings. Harvest season. France in September is difficult to resist.

Autumn in France

France turns gold. Vineyards change color, temperatures cool and the countryside becomes extraordinarily photogenic.

Travel through Burgundy, stopping in Beaune and tiny wine villages surrounded by legendary vineyards. Or follow the Alsace Wine Route through storybook towns including Colmar, Riquewihr and Kaysersberg.

October is equally beautiful in Paris, the Loire Valley and Provence. It is a wonderful month for travelers who want beautiful scenery, exceptional food and wine, and a slower rhythm.

November

France Slows Down

November is one of France’s overlooked pleasures. Crowds thin, fireplaces return, restaurants become wonderfully cozy and the country begins its transition toward the holiday season.

Spend a few sophisticated days in Paris exploring museums, galleries, cafés and restaurants before continuing to Champagne. In Reims and Épernay, descend beneath the earth into historic Champagne cellars for private tours and tastings.

As November draws to a close, Christmas lights begin appearing and many of France’s celebrated holiday markets open for the season. For travelers who care more about culture, food, wine and atmosphere than warm weather, November can be a wonderful surprise.

Christmas in France

France becomes magical at Christmas. Begin in Paris beneath sparkling lights, beautifully decorated boulevards and the spectacular holiday windows of the city’s famous department stores. Then board the train east. Welcome to Alsace.

Strasbourg transforms into the self-proclaimed Capital of Christmas, while nearby Colmar looks as though it has stepped directly from the pages of a storybook. Follow the Alsace Wine Route through timber-framed villages illuminated for the holidays, stopping for Christmas markets, local specialties and Alsatian wines along the way.

Continue to Champagne for intimate cellar visits and celebratory tastings in Reims and Épernay. Or travel south to Lyon for the spectacular Fête des Lumières, traditionally held in early December. Christmas markets. Champagne. Twinkling villages. Paris dressed for the holidays. France saves something very special for December.

Your France. Your way.

Your accommodations, private transfers, guides and experiences are carefully arranged in advance. You will be greeted upon arrival and introduced to trusted local partners, while I remain only a phone call away throughout your journey.
